The CARE Institute is dedicated to advancing Healthcare & Medicine, with a primary focus on Cardiovascular Pathophysiology. Its mission is to explore the complex interactions and underlying mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases, identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets, and develop comprehensive strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions, aiming to reduce the global health burden associated with cardiovascular diseases.
Five Research Pillars CARE Institute:
- Cardiac Signalling (Cellular & Molecular Aspects)
- Cardio-Periodontal Manifestation
- Metabolic Syndrome and Cardiac Risk Profiles
- Natural Cardioprotective Agent
- Cardiovascular Diseases, Artificial Intelligence
Following the rebranding of the then Institute of Forensic Science (IFS) in 2015, I-PPerForM is proud to position itself as the frontier in cardiovascular pathology focuses on atherosclerosis, which is the major contributor of coronary heart disease, the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in this country and globally. The aim of the research niche is to understand the complex interactions and shared pathophysiological mechanisms of cardiovascular-related diseases, identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets, and develop effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies to reduce the global burden of these interrelated health issues. The main complications of atherosclerosis are atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), stroke and peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
Our research includes coronary risk factors (CRF) incorporating dyslipidaemia, hypercholesterolaemia, low HDL, hypertension, diabetes, glucose intolerance, obesity, metabolic syndrome (MetS) and metabolic associated fatty liver disease or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The manifestation of ASCVD in periodontal diseases has been an integral part of the research work. Furthermore, novel biomarkers of atherosclerosis including inflammation, endothelial activation/dysfunction, channelopathy, oxidative stress and prothombogenesis have been intensively studied. In addition, natural cardioprotective products with anti-atherosclerotic properties, including tocotrienols, saffron, fenugreek, and Nigella sativa are also included. The use of emerging technologies in predicting cardiovascular risk factors using machine learning and biosensors are the way forward to expand the research niche. Our institute has been at the forefront of these transformations, with a dedicated team of researchers who are passionate about harnessing the latest innovations to serve the community and nation.
OBJECTIVE
- To understand transcriptional expression of channelopathies and cardiomyopathies events, cellular metabolic pathways and the gene variant with eletrophyisological mechanisms in healthy and failing hearts.
- To investigate the biological pathways of novel biomarkers that link metabolic syndrome and obesity to cardivascular disease and determine endocrine disruptors influencing obesity.
- To classify the periodontal parameters correlated with CVD and to develop effective preventive and therapeutic strategies to mitigate adverse health outcomes.
- To develop and evaluated nano-tocotrienol formulations with enchanced anti-atherogenic properties.
- To provide behavioural digital solutions for prediction and prevention of CVD.
VISION
To become a renowned global research center and forefront referral center in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology that provides understanding and solutions to ultimately reducing cardiovascular disease burden-morbidity and mortality.
MISSION
To understand the complex interactions and shared pathophysiological mechanismd of cardiovascular-related disease, identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic target, and develop effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies to reduce the global burden of these interrelated health issued.
